K. Approval of Program Discontinuance
The following information is being presented for the purpose of the District Board monitoring of their Desired Outcomes Policy, #1TOA0100, Student Success-Program Outcome Assessment. Computer Information Systems – Programmer/Analyst began as Data Processing – Computer Operations in 1979. In 1991 the name changed to Computer Information Systems – Programmer/Analyst. Throughout the years the program content has been continuously updated to include new technology. The program was suspended in May 2005 because of declining enrollment. The enrollment decline was contributed to the start of the CIS-Micro Programmer Specialist Program in 2000 and, because in many businesses, the use of the AS/400 platform (part of the CIS-Programmer/Analyst Program) had been supplanted by micro or desktop computers. The CIS-Micro Programmer Specialist Program trains students in newer skills using Java, C+, C# and Visual Basic.Net. This appeals to more students and impacted CIS-Programmer/Analyst enrollments. After the 2004-05 school year, the State changed the name and number of the program from Computer Information Systems – Programmer/Analyst (10-107-1) to Information Technology – Programmer/Analyst (10-152-1). Programs can be in suspension for three years; therefore the sunset date for the suspension of this program is May 2008. It is proposed that the Information Technology – Programmer/ Analyst Program (formerly Computer Information Systems – Programmer/Analyst) be discontinued after the 2007-08 school year. SUGGESTED MOTION: I move that the Moraine Park Technical College District Board approve the discontinuance of the Information Technology – Programmer/Analyst Program (10-152-1) (formerly Computer Information Systems – Programmer/Analyst (10-107-1)) after the 2007-08 school year. |
